What is RSS?RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication, is an easy and automatic way to keep up to date on information from Web sites you like. Rather than going to Web sites to see if a new article, feature or podcast has been published, you can subscribe to an RSS “feed” to alert you every time there is something new.
How do I use it?To use RSS, you need to decide which reader or aggregator you would like to use – you can either download a news reader or use a browser-based reader like My Yahoo! or Google Reader. Here is a list of such readers from the Yahoo Directory. Typically, these readers will ask for the URL (Web address) of the feed. To find this out, click on the orange RSS button on any page on froedtert.com that has it. That will open a new browser that will contain formatting. Copy the Web address and then paste it into your RSS reader. Then, your RSS feeds from your chosen Web sites will display within your reader. All you have to do is choose which RSS feed you want, such as Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin press releases or podcasts!
How do I use it with iTunes? To subscribe to a podcast in iTunes:
- Windows users:
- Right-click on the orange “XML” icon.
- Select “Copy Shortcut” from the menu that opens.
- In iTunes, select Advanced > Subscribe to Podcast
- Paste the URL in the “URL” box and click “OK.”
- Mac users:
- Hold Control and click on the orange “XML” icon.
- Select “Copy Link Location” from the menu that opens.
- In iTunes, select Advanced > Subscribe to Podcast
- Paste the URL in the “URL” box and click “OK.”
