National Accreditation
The Joint Commission, an independent, not-for-profit organization, is the premier group that sets national healthcare standards and has been accrediting healthcare facilities since 1951. The Joint Commission conducts extensive onsite visits of healthcare providers every three years focusing not only on the ability to provide quality and safety of care but on a facility’s actual performance in practice. Hospitals and clinics spend several years preparing for the review, which evaluates every aspect of the patient care delivery system.
In 2004, the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Stroke Program became the first in Wisconsin to be accredited by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center. This important national certification recognizes the Stroke Program's high level of care, specifically recognizing that the critical elements are in place to ensure improved outcomes for those afflicted with stroke.
