An Intern's Story

“Thanks to my Froedtert internship, I now know that I enjoy the processes of quality management. I plan on pursuing a master’s degree in healthcare informatics.”

That’s how Antwan Jones summed up his summer internship in quality management at Froedtert Hospital. Offered to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Health Sciences students, the Froedtert Minority Summer Internship program gives undergraduates hands-on experience in areas such as healthcare administration, occupational therapy, imaging, clinical laboratory science and other areas. Interns work side by side with professionals and become a valuable part of the team. They’re paid for their work and often are hired as full- or part-time hospital staff when their internship ends.

The internship program supports Froedtert’s mission to teach the next generation of healthcare professionals, helps fill the pipeline of skilled job candidates and fosters workforce diversity and cultural competence.

After completing his internship, Antwan accepted a full-time position with the Froedtert clinical informatics team as an Epic implementation system analyst. He’ll be involved in a challenging, organization-wide conversion to Epic, a new electronic medical records system that will enhance patient care and save time for providers and patients.

“The best thing about my internship was the opportunity to observe practicing healthcare providers and executives on a daily basis,” said Antwan. “Before this experience, I wasn’t sure which aspect of healthcare I would thrive in. Now I know.”
