Encouraging Community Service

Community Service Program

The Community Service Program (CSP) allows hourly staff involved in community service on behalf of the hospital to be paid at their regular rate for up to eight hours of community service per year.

Froedtert Hospital’s CSP was awarded the Volunteer Center of Milwaukee’s 2009 “Inspire by Example” Business Award for promoting, encouraging and supporting employee volunteerism at the 27th Annual Volunteer awards luncheon.

Rebuilding Day
Froedtert Health staff, friends and family members installed safety rails and smoke detectors and completed various tasks at the home of a Milwaukee elderly resident as part of Rebuilding Together of Greater Milwaukee’s annual (RTGM) “Rebuilding Day.”

“I was especially impressed with the way your people worked together to accomplish the many tasks that will make Alice’s life a much easier and enjoyable one. The Froedtert team demonstrated the unselfish dedication to help others in both a work and community setting. This is also a main reason that your hospital has such a national recognition for excellence.”

Habitat for Humanity
Froedtert Health staff members gave up their leisure day on a sunny Saturday and rolled up their sleeves to help Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity construct a home in the city of Milwaukee.

“I think the event went great. Everyone who was there pitched in and worked very hard. We learned new skills, and I learned that dry walling will NOT be my next career. I definitely think we should do this on some type of regular basis."

Milwaukee Spelling Bee
Froedtert Hospital staff competes every year in the Milwaukee Spelling Bee under the team name, “Froedtert’s Finest Fonetickers”. This event raises funds and awareness for the adult literacy and GED programs offered at Literacy Services of Wisconsin. In 2009, the team won Best Costume for their flu fighting attire.

“Literacy is very important for the individual and the community. Everyone should have the access to become literate and further their education as long as they are willing to put the work in and have an authentic desire to learn.”
                    - Mildred, staff member and “Foneticker”
