Every senior medical student must write a personal statement as part of his or her residency application. It is not a simple assignment. A group of us created a Writers Workshop to help the students get the process kickstarted.

I wrote an essay that appears on the Association of American Medical College's blog, AM Rounds.

This process has been very rewarding for me. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or ideas as we continue to develop these workshops.

Bruce Campbell, MD, grew up in the Chicago area, graduating from Purdue University and Rush Medical College. He completed an otolaryngology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin and a head and neck surgery fellowship at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He was a faculty member, ENT specialist and surgeon with Froedtert & MCW health network from 1987 until his retirement in 2021.
