Giving Thanks

I will admit it. I am, at times, a "Facebooker." I post on occasion, usually poking fun at myself for something goofy I did. The month of November, I post every day about one thing that I am thankful for.

There is so much to be thankful for in life that 30 days does not seem to be enough time. Here are a few things for which I am truly thankful.

  • My health.
    I walk through our hospital realizing that the people who are walking the halls are here because of a health issue — their own or the issue of someone they care about.

    There are simple steps to take regarding your health. Have an annual physical and dental appointment. Take the stairs instead of the elevator up that one floor. Add more vegetables and water to your diet.

  • My smile.
    Everyone has a burden in their life that we may not know about. A smile can make a difference, regardless of how small, in someone’s day. I smile and say good morning to all I pass. Some respond, some do not. Either way, I feel good about doing it.

  • My family and friends.
    The people in my life have helped me through happy times as well as the hard times. This time of year can be difficult.

    If you or a loved one is feeling overwhelmed, anxious or depressed, there are people out there who can help. Your primary care physician can recommend someone for you if you are not sure where to turn. Please do not wait another day.

While the list is not exactly injury prevention per se, it is wellness for your psyche. Make a list of what you are thankful for and share it. You do not know how many people will benefit from a simple smile. Plus, everyone looks great wearing a smile.
