Hamstring Injury Prevention

Hamstring injuries are a fairly common injury that we see in our clinic. It could be someone who strained the muscle leading to pain and discomfort. Or it may be related to some weakness following hip or knee surgery.

Recently, I have had a couple of different patients coming to see me for hamstring issues. Once their pain and range of motion had shown improvement, I wanted to give them some good exercises to help strengthen the muscles to prevent further injury.

I remembered an article that was in the Strength and Conditioning Journal put out by the National Strength and Conditioning Association a couple of years ago. I found it to be a well-written article with a lot of practical suggestions for exercises to help with hamstring injury prevention.

I thought I would put the link to the article with the hamstring injury prevention exercises here, if you want to try to include any of the exercises into your normal routine during these cold winter months when we are confined to the gym.  Hopefully, it will keep you from suffering any hamstring pulls this spring when we are finally able to get back to all of our outdoor activities, whatever your favorite sport may be.
