Patient-Centered Care
Cancer is a complicated disease. Getting treatment shouldn't be.
Cancer is different from other diseases. Why? Because treating cancer
usually requires the collaboration of many different kinds of
physicians — surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists
and others. For patients and their families, navigating the system
can be daunting.
We offer an alternative. The Froedtert & The Medical College of
Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center is the first cancer center in the
nation built entirely around patients.
We group physicians by the kind of cancer they treat, not the kind
of service they provide. For example, our Breast Cancer Program brings
together experts in breast cancer diagnosis, surgery, drug treatment
and radiation therapy, plus nurses who specialize in breast cancer.
All work together in a single clinic at the Clinical Cancer Center.
We call this model of care the hub model because it puts the patient
in the center, surrounded by everything he or she needs — coordinators,
physicians, nurses and other clinical experts, services and support.
At the Clinical Cancer Center, there is a specialized hub team for
every type of cancer. For patients and their families, the benefits
are completely coordinated treatment and a seamless care experience.
