Fellowships
Established by donors to Froedtert Hospital Foundation, four fellowships have been awarded to physicians who have completed residency training and are pursuing further specialization.
The Daniel M. Soref Fellowship for Clinical Neuroscience
The Daniel M. Soref Fellowship for Clinical Neuroscience was established in 2003 with a gift from the Daniel M. Soref Charitable Trust. Soref, one of the founders of Master Lock Company was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and after his passing the Soref Fellowship was created to memorialize Mr. Soref's generosity and concern for others.
This is a one year Fellowship (renewable for a maximum of two years) in Clinical Neuroscience. Special emphasis is placed on clinical research. The Fellow may also participate in any number of neurological-related subspecialties.
This full-time appointment in the Department of Neurology is held by Thomas Wolfe, MD, who graduated from Marquette University in 1998 and completed his Medical Doctorate at The Medical College of Wisconsin in 2003. Dr. Wolfe also completed his internship (Internal Medicine, 2004) and his residency (Neurology, 2007) at The Medical College of Wisconsin. Also, in 2007, Dr. Wolfe was a Medical College fellow training in Neurocritical Care and Interventional Neurology.
The Donald J. Schuenke Cancer Fellowship
The Donald J. Schuenke Cancer Fellowship was established in 2006 as a memorial for Donald J. Schuenke, a dedicated vice chairman of the Froedtert Hospital Board of Directors and chair of Froedtert Hospital Foundation’s Board of Directors. The Fellowship was founded as a memorial to Mr. Schuenke’s exemplary efforts and selfless contributions to Froedtert Hospital and the Froedtert Hospital Foundation.
The sole purpose of the Schuenke Fellowship is training the next, and subsequent, generations of cancer physician specialists. The Donald J. Schuenke Cancer Fellowship is a two year Fellowship (renewable for a maximum of four years) in Clinical Oncology. Special emphasis is placed on clinical research. The Fellowship is open to extraordinary board eligible graduates of accredited residency programs. The Fellow may be selected to participate in any of a number of cancer-related subspecialties, and has the opportunity to rotate to other services related to medical oncology.
The Schuenke Fellowship is a full-time appointment at the Department of Medicine, Division of Neoplastic Diseases, is awarded to Ben George, MD. Dr. George graduated and completed his Medical Doctorate in Kerala, India, in 1998. Dr. George completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in 2007 and was a Hematology-Oncology fellow there from 2007 through this year.
The Mazie Froedtert Willms & Sue Froedtert Cancer Fellowship
Mazie Froedtert Willms and Sue Froedtert are the daughters of Kurtis R. and Mary Froedtert. This Fellowship was established in their names as a permanently endowed Fellowship with the sole purpose of training the next generation of cancer physician specialists.
The Mazie Froedtert Willms & Sue Froedtert Cancer Fellowship is a two-year, full-time Fellowship) renewable for a maximum of four years) in Oncology. This Fellowship is open to exceptional board eligible graduates of accredited residency programs participating in advanced level cancer related subspecialty training.
This full-time appointment in the Department of Medicine, Division of Neoplastic Diseases, is held by Veerpal Singh, MD, who graduated from Meerut University / Santosh Medical College, India, in 2002 where he also completed his internship training. Dr. Singh completed his residency at Northwestern University McGaw Medical Center at Evanston in 2007. Dr. Singh was a Research Fellow at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (2007-2008) and is a Hematology-Oncology Fellow (2008-2011) at The Medical College of Wisconsin.
The Women’s Sports Medicine Fellowship
Created in 2002 as part of the Sports Medicine Center, the Women’s Sports Medicine Program at Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin provides specialized care for female athletes and the unique physical, psychological and medical issues they face. The Women’s Sports Medicine Program is the only one of its kind in the Midwest, and one of only three in the country.
The Froedtert Hospital Volunteer Associates established and funded the first two years of the Women’s Sports Medicine Fellowship in 2004 to encourage others to participate in sustaining a fund for this Fellowship. Since that time, the fellowship has been funded through the generosity of Johnson Controls.
This Fellowship is a full-time appointment in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Women’s Sports Medicine Program, and is held by Megan L. Noon, MD. Dr. Noon graduated and received her Medical Doctorate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine in 2005. Dr. Noon recently completed her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from the University of Missouri-Columbia in June 2009.
