Volunteering

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities at Froedtert Hospital are available seven days a week, in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Flexible scheduling can be arranged, but the typical volunteer contributes his/her time one day a week for three to four hours. There are volunteer opportunities in many of our specialty areas, some of which are highlighted below.

Ambulatory Services

Volunteers assist outpatient clinic staff by keeping waiting and public areas neat and comfortable, restocking patient and office supplies, preparing patients for procedures and assisting at the front desk when needed.

Emergency Department

Volunteers assist clinical staff by maintaining a pleasant waiting area for patients and families, restocking patient rooms and staff supplies, preparing beds with fresh linens, helping to answer questions, and directing patients and families.

Cancer Center

Volunteers assist staff with a wide variety of duties including providing comfort in the way of blankets, juice, water and/or soup to outpatients in the Day Hospital.

Inpatient Nursing Floors

Volunteers provide companionship to patients and help the time pass a little more quickly. Volunteers also assist staff to ensure patients are comfortable and that basic needs are met and help with certain assigned tasks.

Family Center

Volunteers meet the immediate needs of family and friends of patients in intensive care or surgery. Volunteers communicate information to families, coordinate patient visits, provide hospitality services and assist with visitor access to professional staff.

Information Desks

As a first point of contact for the hospital, volunteers assist our patients and visitors with way-finding, answering general questions and helping to maintain a safe and pleasant environment. Volunteers also deliver mail, flowers, gifts and newspapers to patients throughout the hospital.

Patient Relations

Volunteers visit newly admitted patients and provide information about hospital services, answer frequently asked questions, and help direct families and friends to resources they might need.

Spiritual Services

Volunteers serve as communion ministers and pastoral care workers providing spiritual support to patients of diverse religious backgrounds. Additionally, Art Cart volunteers provide patients with creative diversional activities.

Babies’ Friends

Volunteers knit, sew, and crochet baby wear for the Birth Center. This can be done outside of the hospital, individually or with a group of friends. Volunteer Services can provide patterns for the items as well.

Bobbe’s 92nd Street Gift Shoppe

Bobbe's Gift Shoppe is the largest fundraising effort of the volunteer associates for Froedtert Hospital. Volunteers staff the shop, operate the cash register, provide customer service and stock shelves.

Office Support

Volunteers assist various departments throughout the hospital with a range of office tasks such as filing, photocopying, collating, light typing, answering telephones and mailing projects.
