Nursing Assistant Training Program
Froedtert Hospital offers a Nursing Assistant Training Program two or three times each year. This is an accelerated class, which meets all state requirements, is more than 120 hours in length and includes independent study, theory review, skills demonstration, practice sessions, tests, skill check-offs and hospital clinical experience.
Our next class is scheduled from Sunday, January 3 through Saturday, March 27, 2010. Class size is limited to 12 students (additional students may be accepted on a waiting list). This class will meet approximately every other Saturday and Sunday during the following dates and times:
January 3 — 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm (orientation) January 9, 10, 23, 24 — 8:30 am to 5:00 pm February 6, 7, 20 — 8:30 am to 5:00 pm February 21 — 7:00 am to 4:00 pm March 6, 7, 20, 21 — 7:00 am to 4:00 pm March 27 — 7:00 am to 5:00 pm
In addition, a class is tentatively scheduled for May that will be held on weekdays and weekends during day hours. Please contact Eva Melenchuk (see below) in February for the status of this class.
Application ProcessSelection of students is made by application and interview assessment. Application for this class does not guarantee acceptance into the class. Application for the January 2010 class, scheduled from September 25 through October 30, 2009, will take place in the Human Resources Department at Froedtert, open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.

and return them by October 30 with a $15 non-refundable application processing fee. If you have previously submitted the $15 application fee along with your application, you are not required to submit another application fee, just the application forms. Application for this class is necessary, even if you have applied for past classes. Attendance is mandatory. You must be available to attend all classes.
Requirements for the class include 18 years of age or older, high school graduate (or equivalent), physical exam and updated immunizations.
You are requested to send a copy of your most recent education transcripts along with your application. All applicants will be notified by November 20, 2009 as to their status in the class. No early inquiries please, unless you have not received an email/phone call verification of receipt of your application within one week of submitting your application.
ResponsibilitiesA nursing assistant’s responsibilities are to provide basic care to patients under the supervision of licensed nurses. These responsibilities may include bathing, dressing, toileting, skin care, bed making, taking vital signs, moving or transferring patients and communication.
The course is approved by the Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services as meeting state and federal regulations for nursing assistants’ training and competency evaluation. Upon successful completion and testing, the student will be placed on the Nursing Assistant Registry in the state of Wisconsin.
Program Fee If you have been accepted into the program, the cost is $800, which includes state certification testing. The fee must be paid by December 4, 2009. Payment may be made with cash, check, or credit card at the Froedtert East Clinic lobby cashier. Current Froedtert staff may be eligible for tuition assistance.
All newly accepted students must complete a physical examination by December 18, 2009. This may be completed by the student’s own physician or through a contracted clinic (information will be provided).
This program, presented with Waukesha County Technical Institute (WCTC), utilizes assigned DVD and reading assigments, discussion, tests, skill demonstrations, practice sessions and clinical experience. This course prepares the student for employment as an entry level nursing assistant.
When the student has completed the program, he or she may apply for a Patient Care Assistant position at Froedtert Hospital. Completion of this course does not guarantee employment at Froedtert Hospital. You will only be hired into vacant positions. The majority of vacant positions are on second and third shifts.
