Pharmacy Residency Programs

As the only academic medical center in eastern Wisconsin, Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin offer an exciting work environment for pharmacy residents. Since 1993, Froedtert Hospital has been committed to providing a wide range of inpatient and outpatient training experiences for pharmacy residents. Our flexible 12-month Pharmacy Residency Programs offer required and elective rotations with activities tailored to meet the needs and interests of each resident. We use the Epic Rx pharmacy information system to facilitate pharmaceutical care throughout the hospital and our ambulatory clinics.

The Froedtert Pharmacy Residency Programs are the first step in your path to a rewarding future. Froedtert Hospital currently offers five residency programs:

The 12-month PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Program offers comprehensive training in a variety of clinical areas.
The 12-month PGY1 Community Pharmacy Program provides training in a variety of ambulatory and retail settings.
The 12-month PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration Program builds upon the PGY1 program to prepare residents for high-level managerial, supervisory and leadership responsibilities.
The 12-month PGY2 Critical Care Program provides advanced clinical training and leadership opportunities in this specialty area.
The 12-month PGY2 Oncology Program provides advanced oncology clinical training and leadership opportunities in a variety of settings.

ASHP Best Practices Award

In December 2007, the Froedtert Hospital Pharmacy Department was honored by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) at its Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition. ASHP selected Froedtert pharmacists to receive the ninth annual ASHP Best Practices Award in Health-System Pharmacy for the program titled “Improving Patient Safety through Implementation of a Pharmacy-Conducted Admission Medication History and Multidisciplinary Discharge Medication Reconciliation Process.” This award program is a national competition that recognizes innovation and outstanding leadership in health system pharmacy. Froedtert pharmacists were one of six recipients selected for the award in 2007 from among 60 applicants.

1. Froedtert Hospital residency application
2. Froedtert Hospital employment application
3. Current curriculum vitae (CV) or resume
4. Examples of three projects you have completed (case and topic presentation, new drug evaluation, newsletter article, etc.)
5. Pharmacy school transcript (hard copy acceptable)
6. Two or three letters of recommendation (a template will be sent to you via email to forward to your recommenders)

Upon receipt and review of all application materials, we will extend invitations for interviews. An onsite interview is required and must be completed by February 26, 2010. Unfortunately, it is not possible to interview all applicants.
