PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Program

Requirements and Expectations

The following are some of the requirements and expectations for participants in the PGY1 Pharmacy Program at Froedtert Hospital:

  1. Professional Organization Membership

    • American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)
    • Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin (PSW)

  2. Conferences

    • ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting
    • Great Lakes Pharmacy Resident Conference (GLPRC)
    • Milwaukee Residency Conferences (six/year)
    • PSW Annual Meeting (optional)
    • PSW Educational Conference (optional)

  3. Formal Presentations

    • ASHP Resident Poster Presentation at ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting
    • UHC Resident Poster Presentation
    • GLPRC PowerPoint Presentation
    • PSW Poster Presentation (recommended)

  4. Acute Care Clinical Practice (based on current model, subject to modification for 2008 - 2009)

    • One out of five weeks spent staffing as a decentral clinical pharmacist (Monday - Friday, 10-hour PM shifts)
    • One out of five weekends spent staffing as a central and/or decentral pharmacist (Friday - Sunday, 10-hour shifts)
    • One medication history shift every five weeks (Weeknight, 5:00 - 9:00 pm)

  5. Departmental Meetings

    • Twice weekly clinical conferences
    • Weekly resident discussions
    • Monthly staff meetings

  6. Licensure

    • Licensed as a pharmacist in the state of Wisconsin

  7. Other

    • Minimum 8 hours/day (Monday - Friday)
    • Assist and support department in additional ways as needed
    • Complete assignments and evaluations on a timely basis
    • ACLS certification (classes provided)
    • Coordinate Pharmacy Week activities within the hospital
