The following is the text of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's proclamation:
WHEREAS:
Today, we celebrate Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin's first annual Just Drive! Week, a program designed to encourage safe driving among teenagers and their parents. The Just Drive! program highlights the dangers of distracted driving and also encourages both parents and teens to eliminate those distractions and simply ‘just drive,’ as the campaign name implies.
WHEREAS:
Operating the region’s only adult Level I Trauma Center, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin are committed to expanding access to life-saving and life-improving care for the people in Milwaukee and beyond, and Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin take pride in being a resource to the community.
WHEREAS:
Citing statistics that show car crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers, and based on real world experience from its own trauma center, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin created the Just Drive! program to encourage safer driving among teenagers and their parents.
WHEREAS:
Through extensive community outreach, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin will spread the word about Just Drive! and the recent results of the Just Drive! survey including the latest driving statistics and tips on how to talk to teens about driving safely.
Now therefore, I, Tom Barrett, Mayor of the City of Milwaukee, in recognition of this important initiative, do hereby proclaim March 27- 31, 2006 in the city of Milwaukee as, “Just Drive! Week.”
