Bistro Makes Meals Easier for Cancer Patients When patients come to the Day Hospital in the Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center, their care often requires an all-day stay. The Day Hospital provides chemotherapy, blood products and other types of infusions and advanced services that might otherwise require hospitalization.
During many hours of treatment, hunger may call. Now, patients in the Day Hospital can take advantage of food service while they receive their treatment. The 87th Street Bistro, located on Level 2 of the Clinical Cancer Center, offers natural and organic homemade foods. The menu features a wide variety of meals and snacks such as vegetable omelets, eggplant parmesan, crepes, seafood or tuna melts, salads, pizza, baked macaroni and cheese and fruit smoothies.
“Patients who are receiving treatment in the Day Hospital can call down to the Bistro, place an order and pay with a credit card,” said Matthew Worman, manager of the 87th Street Bistro. “We deliver the food directly to their treatment area. Family members and other visitors may also order from the Bistro.
“It’s not necessarily true that people going through treatment don’t want to eat. They just have a hard time finding the right foods. We cater to many diets such as low-sodium, gluten-free and high-protein. We work hard to find items that they will want to eat, and we use natural ingredients, so they get a lot of nutrition.”
The 87th Street Bistro is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
