Epic Enhances Patient Care Quality and Safety
In July 2009, Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin took another major step forward in its transition to an electronic medical record system. Physicians, nurses and other clinical staff expanded the utilization of Epic, the organization’s electronic medical record, to include documentation of patients’ daily progress notes, vital signs and other critical patient assessments. A computer in each patient room ensures that all caregivers have convenient access to view and document important information at the patient’s bedside. Caregivers can also access the Epic system remotely from their clinic offices or home by using a secure Internet connection, which leads to improved efficiency and effectiveness of their clinical practices.
