National Leader in Stroke Care
The Froedtert & Medical College Stroke Center recently achieved certification as a primary stroke center by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). This important national certification recognizes the Stroke Center’s high level of care. Froedtert & Medical College is proud to be the first hospital in Wisconsin and the second in the Midwest to reach this milestone.
“Stroke patients are entitled to comprehensive, high quality care. Earning JCAHO certification is one way to make sure hospitals meet patients’ expectations,” says Michel Torbey, MD, MPH, Medical College of Wisconsin neurointensivist and director of the Stroke Critical Care Program.
According to a recent article in the Journal of the American Medical Association, 82% of hospitals did not have rapid identification for patients experiencing acute stroke, and 66% did not have stroke protocols. Minimizing delay in stroke treatment is critical. The Froedtert & Medical College Acute Stroke Team combines rapid access to specialty expertise and written care protocols to provide individualized attention for patients.
