“When I first started out as a Cardiac Catheterization Lab nurse,” she says, “there were no balloons or stents.” Staff performed angiograms, but once blockages were located, treatment options were few. “Now we have angioplasty, drug-eluting stents, atherectomy, total occlusion devices, brachytherapy and more.” |
Despite all these new technologies, Bode stresses the human element in heart care. “The patients are wonderful,” she says. She emphasizes the importance of connecting personally with patients and making sure their time in the hospital is the best it can be.
In her current position, Bode supervises a staff of 50 in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, the EKG and Echocardiography Labs and Cardiac Rehabilitation. “These days, what keeps me motivated is that I work alongside exceptional staff who love what they do and give extraordinary patient care.”
“Recently, one of our nurses said, ‘I love coming to work here!’ That’s the best part of my day — seeing people who are excited about their jobs.”
