Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Among Top 20 Academic Medical Centers

A national scorecard measuring clinical quality, safety and cost performance of nonprofit academic medical centers ranked Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin 18th among 83 participating organizations. The ranking represents a 20-place jump over last year.

The ranking is conducted annually by the University Health System Consortium (UHC), a national alliance of 97 academic medical centers and 153 of their affiliated hospitals, representing about 90 percent of the nation’s nonprofit academic medical centers.

“Improving our standing in a single year to rank among the country’s top 20 academic medical centers shows how committed we are to providing the safest, highest quality, most efficient care possible,” said John A.Weigelt,MD, Medical College of Wisconsin trauma and critical care surgeon and chief, Trauma and Critical Care Surgery. Dr. Weigelt is also medical director of the Joint Clinical Quality Office of Froedtert & the Medical College.

Froedtert & the Medical College had a perfect score in the measure for care that was equitable regardless of gender, race or socioeconomic status. Other measures were based on patient safety, efficiency and effectiveness of care, mortality rates and the “patient-centeredness” of care, reflecting the Institute of Medicine’s six aims for improving health care.
