MyChart Keeps Patients in the LoopWhen Dave Kastner heard about MyChart®, which gives patients at Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin easy, secure Internet access to their medical histories, he didn’t waste time before enrolling.
“I’m a caregiver for my elderly parents, and I carry around folders to keep track of their medications and medical histories,” Dave said. “But with MyChart, everything is in one spot. It’s a blessing.” Dave is one of more than 10,000 people who use MyChart through Froedtert & The Medical College.
MyChart shows patients their current medications, health issues, test results, immunization records and medical and surgical histories. Patients may also authorize other family or caregivers to access their MyChart. In addition, they can send a secure electronic message to their healthcare providers about non-emergency issues, renew prescriptions, and request, cancel and view appointments, according to Megan Fedders, program manager in the Office of Clinical Informatics at The Medical College of Wisconsin.
“Quick access to test results is one of MyChart’s most popular features,” Fedders said.
“Patients love getting test results quickly,” said Rick Gillis, MD, chief medical information officer for Froedtert & Community Health and internist at the Sargaent Primary Care Clinic. “I review results, then just hit a button to release them.”
To enroll, patients present a valid ID at a clinic reception desk and fill out a form. Then, they can visit mychartlink.com and use a provided code to activate MyChart.
