Smoke-Free in NovemberOn Friday, Nov. 16, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin and other campus partners at the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center (MRMC) will become smoke-free and tobacco-free.
“It is our responsibility to provide the healthiest environment possible for our patients and staff,” said Cathy Buck, RN, executive vice president of Operations for Froedtert Hospital. “By creating a smoke-free environment, we will promote better health for generations to come, while supporting our mission to advance the health status of the individuals and the communities we serve.”
The new policy will also apply to Froedtert staff working at the Woodland Prime Office Park in Menomonee Falls and all other Froedtert owned or leased properties.
While all MRMC facilities prohibit smoking indoors, the expanded policy also includes MRMC grounds — sidewalks, parking lots, personal vehicles on campus property, all entrances/exits and all outdoor areas.
In becoming smoke-free and tobacco-free, MRMC will join all the other healthcare facilities in southeast Wisconsin. Each MRMC partner will offer its own support program and individualized resources to staff members who wish to quit smoking. Patients who smoke will also receive support to abstain from tobacco use during hospitalization.
Other MRMC facilities that are going smoke-free and tobacco-free are:
- Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin
- Medical College of Wisconsin
- Curative Care Network
- BloodCenter of Wisconsin
- Behavioral Health division of the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex
