Trauma Center Receives Top RatingThe Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Trauma Center has been re-verified as a Level I Trauma Center by the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons. Level I is the top rating a trauma center may receive – meaning it provides the highest level of care available for injured people.
“The Trauma Center is a resource many communities don’t have,” said Medical College of Wisconsin trauma surgeon John Weigelt, MD, chief of Trauma and Critical Care Surgery at Froedtert & the Medical College. Froedtert & the Medical College are home to the only adult Level I Trauma Center in eastern Wisconsin.
To be considered Level I, a trauma center must maintain a surgically directed critical care service, participate in resident training, be an education and outreach leader, conduct trauma research and participate in injury prevention and control. In addition, Level I trauma centers must be able to manage large numbers of severely injured patients.
