Christian-Lobley now cares for patients in the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit, (NICU) and is a nurse practitioner in Neurosurgery. It's clear how busy she is, how demanding her job is — and how much she loves it. | She prescribes medications, admits and discharges patients, calls consults and does standard procedures in the NICU. She adds, "I share responsibilities with neurosurgery residents and other mid-level providers. Of course, everything we do is in collaboration with physicians."
Christian-Lobley sees nurses alongside physicians at the forefront of healthcare — a change over the years. "Nurses today seek more education and credentials. We take more initiative with patient care, research and other clinical directives for improved care and outcomes," she says. "Physicians rely on us to track changes and help diagnose and treat patients."
Christian-Lobley enjoys the challenge of patients with complex needs. "I really like critical care and the fast pace and critical thinking with the neurology and neurosurgery populations. I also work with smart, dependable nurses. In my eyes, nothing compares with the "Neuro" team."
"You're never done learning," she says emphatically. "I'm considering obtaining my PhD. I love the nursing profession. I have fun on my job. Froedtert is an absolutely wonderful place to work."
