According to recent (July 2010) statistics from the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients, Froedtert & The Medical College had a 97.31 percent one-year kidney transplant patient survival rate and a 96.02 percent one-year kidney graft survival rate. These survival rates are in the top 10 percentile of all transplant centers in the country.
“We have an excellent kidney transplant program here,” said Sundaram Hariharan, MD, chief of nephrology and interim director of the Solid Organ Transplant Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin. “Of the centers in the country that perform more than 70 transplants a year, we consistently remain as a center with superb outcomes.” Medical College surgeons perform between 100 and 130 kidney transplants every year.
Dr. Hariharan credits the multidisciplinary approach of the surgeons, nephrologists, nursing staff, social workers, dietitians, physicians assistants, nurse practioners and others, as well as support from the tissue typing lab run by BloodCenter of Wisconsin, for the success of the Kidney Transplant Program.
