The warm weather can bring on actual sunshine. While I love to sit outside in my backyard, enjoying the sun and breeze, there are things I must do to keep safe. There are safety concerns with our wonderful Wisconsin weather, but if we wait long enough, roughly 30 minutes, the weather here changes!
- It does feel great to be able to spend time outside since the warm weather does not stick around very long. One very important thing to remember (mom, are you reading this?): sun block, sun block, sun block! I am not talking about the oils we wore when I was in high school, burning ourselves to a nice color of lobster red, peeling and then doing it all over again.
- Wear an SPF of 15 or greater.
- Remember to put it on all areas that are exposed, including the ears and tops of the feet. Burning the top of your feet is a horrible feeling, especially when you have to wear shoes.
- Cover up.
- Wear a hat when you are outside lounging, playing golf, or enjoying a Brewers game. This is really important if you have thinning hair or are bald (sorry Dad).
- If you do sunburn, shower using only plain ol’ soap. Never pop or pick blisters.
- If it is hazy or over cast, no need to wear sun block, correct? Wrong! Think of it this way: if there are shadows, there are sun rays coming on through. So, put on the block.
Time to enjoy the sun while it lasts!
