Hope & Spirit Honoree: Bryon RieschThe college years — could there be a more carefree time in your life? But that wasn’t the case for Bryon Riesch of Waukesha. Four years ago, while a student at Marquette University, he sustained a spinal cord injury resulting in quadriplegia.
He was treated and rehabilitated at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin following his injury. And he has made quite a success of his life. After graduation from Marquette he went to work for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company and received an award from Goodwill Industries.
Today he is an active volunteer and proponent for spinal cord research. He also speaks to young people about safety and high risk behaviors. “He has been an inspiration through his determination and his accomplishments,” John Pandl, director of Special Projects for Froedtert Hospital, wrote in his nomination.
