Hope & Spirit Community Leaders:
Nursing Schools

Froedtert Hospital employs nearly 1,300 nurses. Every year, the hospital receives stacks of letters from patients who write that their team of nurses was the most skilled, the most compassionate or simply the best. You know what? They are all right. It is no surprise Americans consistently identify nurses as the most trusted professionals.

We rely on our academic partners to prepare the next generation of professional nurses. These institutions have skillfully embraced the challenge of teaching their students the unique blend of science, technology, compassion and communication skills they will need to succeed as nurses.

Each year, more than 600 nursing students pass through Froedtert’s doors as they prepare for their careers. These students are talented, bright and hard-working. They bring energy and excitement, and offer a positive outlook for the future.

Froedtert honors each of our academic partners for the terrific work they do.

Alverno College
Last year, Alverno College marked its 75th year of educating students in nursing. Over the years, the program has been enhanced and refined, but the mission remains the same: educate students to become caring, professional nurses and provide them with the tools to become productive leaders in their field.

Carroll College
The Carroll College nursing program builds on Carroll College's mission of providing a superior educational opportunity to our students, one grounded in the liberal arts tradition and focused on career preparation and lifelong learning. It is the mission of the Carroll College nursing program to prepare nurses for professional practice in a variety of settings, preparing them to take on the characteristics that will allow them to function in the generalist professional nursing role.

Marquette University
Marquette University’s School of Nursing seeks to prepare nursing students for lives of faith and service, to promote the worth of all persons, to assure professional competence, to respect the pursuit of truth and to uphold a high standard of personal integrity. Marquette has been involved in nursing education since 1912 and has trained more than 6500 nurses.

Milwaukee Area Technical College
One of the Midwest’s largest community-based technical colleges, Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC)’s commitment to nursing education has been a core mission since its origins in 1912. A dramatic rise in the demand for health professionals led to the opening of a state-of-the-art Health Building at the Downtown Milwaukee Campus in 1996. The facility supports a wide range of health occupations programs. To alleviate the current statewide nursing shortage, MATC began expanding its RN program in 2002.

The next year saw the creation of a highly successful RN satellite program at the Mequon Campus. In '04 and '05, nursing assistant courses were offered for the first time at the Oak Creek and West Allis campuses. In 2006, the college expanded its LPN program to the Oak Creek Campus. MATC has become one of the state’s foremost providers of entry-level, bedside nurses. Registered nursing is the highest-demand program offered by the college.

Milwaukee School of Engineering
Established in 1995, the School of Nursing at MSOE seeks to provide a balanced nursing education program which promotes the integration of technology with the diagnosis and treatment of human responses to health states. The program carries on the tradition of excellence and caring demonstrated by graduates of the Milwaukee County Medical Complex diploma program, a forerunner of the MSOE School of Nursing.

University of Wisconsin Milwaukee
In 2005-06, the UWM College of Nursing marked its 40th Anniversary. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee College of Nursing seeks to prepare diverse students to be science-based, compassionate nurse-leaders for all settings and levels of practice. It seeks to meet emerging health needs locally and globally through:

  • Innovative, quality educational programs,
  • Research that contributes to the improvement of health,
  • Evolving models of nursing practice,
  • Leadership in developing health care delivery systems and
  • Influencing health policy

      Waukesha County Technical College
Nursing programs at Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) include preparation at the LPN and ADN level of nursing. It has articulation agreements with most four-year colleges in which graduates can pursue a BSN.

The WCTC nursing faculty strives to provide a seamless curriculum that is flexible and accessible for learners statewide. Curriculum is ever changing, responding to new technology and knowledge and the evolving roles within nursing and health care. Information gathering within the community network that includes advisory committees, employers, and healthcare consumers enhances curriculum review and revision. The curriculum also supports multiple employment options for its graduates and articulation with higher education programs.
