A Family Affair

Success was a family affair when two sisters received help conceiving from the Reproductive Medicine Clinic at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Sisters Kim Hansen and Kay Durst had completely different fertility challenges and both sought treatment at the Reproductive Medicine Clinic at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Kim and her husband, Mark, had success on their very first try, and their son Joshua was born in October 2003. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts, Kay and her husband, Brian, decided to adopt son Ethan in July of 2003.

“We had been trying to have a baby for more than three years without any luck,“ Kay explained. “We were thrilled when our adopted son Ethan made us a family. And of course, we dreamed of giving him a brother or sister one day."

That’s when Kay and Brian decided to visit Estil Strawn, MD, Medical College of Wisconsin obstetrician/gynecologist and the Reproductive Medicine Clinic again.

“One of the reasons we decided to revisit the clinic was Dr. Strawn,” Kay said. “He was wonderful, warm, and straightforward all at the same time.”

“In fact, everyone on the team was just great. They even helped out with cost-conscious options, giving us information about the most affordable way to get the medications we needed,” Kay said.

This time the couple’s efforts resulted in not one, but two very special deliveries, when twins Connor and Samantha were born.

It’s a tale of two sisters with a very happy ending, thanks to a little help from the Reproductive Medicine Clinic at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin.
