184 Physicians Named Best Doctors®
(March 17, 2004) — One hundred and eighty-four Medical College of Wisconsin faculty physicians, representing 38 specialties, are listed in the Best Doctors® in America database. The new database, compiled by Best Doctors, Inc. of Boston, Mass., includes more physicians from the Medical College than from any other group practice or institution in Wisconsin. Also, more of the Best Doctors physicians practice at Froedtert Hospital (168 physicians) than in any other Wisconsin hospital.
The Best Doctors list includes 88 faculty physicians with Children's Specialty Group, a joint venture of the Medical College of Wisconsin and Children’s Hospital and Health System, who provide pediatric specialty services at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and other Children’s Hospital and Health System sites. There are 49 Medical College faculty physicians listed who also practice at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center-Milwaukee. All three hospitals are major affiliates of the Medical College. Also, many Medical College faculty also practice at other hospitals and clinics with which the Medical College is affiliated. Several of the College’s Best Doctors practice at more than one affiliate.
The 30,000 U.S. physicians listed in the Best Doctor’s in America database represent only about four percent of the nation’s practicing physicians, and the listing is a singular honor. Current listings are the result of the seventh Best Doctors survey undertaken by Best Doctors, Inc., since 1992. For the survey, the Best Doctors polls over 31,000 leading medical specialists nationwide and ask them to which doctors they themselves would go, or refer an immediate family member, for treatment in their specialty.
Of over 31,000 candidates evaluated, only physicians earning the consensus support of their peers are included, and listings cannot be bought. Best Doctors is a registered trademark of Best Doctors, Inc.
