Agnesian HealthCare and Froedtert Hospital
Form Alliance

(April 2, 2004) — Agnesian HealthCare, Fond du Lac, and Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee, announced today that they are developing a strategic alliance that will expand advanced healthcare services available to Fond du Lac area residents.

While both organizations will remain independent, the alliance would provide a framework to integrate clinical activities, including common quality measures to assure positive patient care outcomes and coordinated managed care strategies.

“Agnesian HealthCare has evolved as one of the region’s premier healthcare providers,” said Robert A. Fale, President and Chief Executive Officer of Agnesian HealthCare. “We remain focused and committed to offering the highest quality care at a local level for all needing care. The alliance with Froedtert Hospital is an additional initiative, helping us fulfill this commitment to our patients and families.”

“Froedtert Hospital has a high quality reputation and, as an academic medical center in partnership with the Medical College of Wisconsin, will assist Agnesian HealthCare in continuing to offer new or enhanced healthcare resources or services to our physicians, staff and their patients,” added Fale. “Our early efforts will examine ways to work more closely in the delivery of heart care, neuroscience and cancer services, and to determine more effective ways to share our quality outcome measurements to those we serve.”

“We are pleased to partner with Agnesian HealthCare,” said William D. Petasnick, President and Chief Executive Officer of Froedtert & Community Health. “Our organizations share a community partnership philosophy; our medical programs complement each other, yet serve different geographic areas. This partnership’s mutual goal is to assure that patients are seen by the right physicians in the right hospital at the right time for the optimal benefit. A strong partnership will assure that patients will receive better coordinated care if they need to move between organizations.”

The alliance reinforces an evolving relationship that has worked well for both providers. Froedtert Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin physicians have collaborated with Agnesian HealthCare in heart care in the past with Froedtert & Medical College physicians offering heart care services in Fond du Lac in partnership with Agnesian HealthCare.

A steering committee has been established and is working to develop the key activities of the alliance.

Agnesian HealthCare, through its six Fond du Lac area provider organizations, offers a wide array of quality inpatient and outpatient healthcare services for families throughout the region. With hospitals in Fond du Lac and Waupun and 13 Fond du Lac Regional Clinic locations, the care of more than 90 primary and specialty care physicians is available. This past year heart care services were expanded to provide a comprehensive range of cardiac services available to patients in the region along with already well-established and highly-recognized cancer care, behavorial health and women’s health programs.

Froedtert Hospital is a private, not-for-profit, 424-bed, academic medical center staffed by faculty physicians of the Medical College of Wisconsin. It serves as an Eastern Wisconsin referral center for advanced medical care in 37 medical specialties and sub-specialties, including heart care, neuroscience and cancer care. It is a major training and research facility with more than 1,000 medical, nursing and health technology students in training. It has more than 1200 active clinical trials each year. Froedtert, a member of Froedtert & Community Health, operates the region’s only adult Level I Trauma Center.  It is home to over 150 “Best Doctors In America,” more than any other hospital in Wisconsin.
