SpineCare Clinic Opens in Oconomowoc

(March 1, 2006) — Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin opened a SpineCare Clinic in Oconomowoc on Wednesday, March 1.

The new SpineCare Clinic is a satellite clinic of the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin SpineCare Clinic in Wauwatosa. The Oconomowoc clinic provides the services of Medical College of Wisconsin physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other staff at a convenient new location in the heart of Wisconsin’s Lake Country in Waukesha County. A team of Monika Krzesniak-Swinarska, MD, Boyd Peterson, DC, physical therapist Mary Beth Ponzo, and other therapists will treat patients with musculoskeletal spine injuries, neck pain, scoliosis, backaches, degenerative disc disease, disc herniations and other spine-related disorders at the new Oconomowoc clinic, as well as at the Wauwatosa clinic.

“Our approach to spine care offers patients an integrated, transdisciplinary methodology,” said Diane Braza, MD, assistant professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin and clinical director of the SpineCare Clinic at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin. “We have an experienced team of experts who specialize in all facets of spine care, including physical medicine, chiropractic, pain management, physical therapy and occupational therapy.”

Of those patients receiving rehabilitation care at the SpineCare Clinic, 97 percent return to their regular work duties with minimal modifications at the end of treatment. Less than 5 percent of patient at the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin SpineCare Clinic undergo surgery compared with 12 percent of patients in a comparable population.  “The reason our surgery rate is so low is that most SpineCare patients get better with conservative treatment alone,” states Braza.

The new 5,800-square-foot Oconomowoc facility is located at 1230 Corporate Center Drive, Suite 400, and consists of six treatment/exam rooms, a therapy gym and offices. It is the second Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin SpineCare Clinic. The other is located at 1155 N. Mayfair Road in Wauwatosa.
