Milwaukee, WI (Oct. 7, 2008) — Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin are teaming up with Shopko to open a FastCare health clinic inside the new Shopko store at Highway 164 and West Silver Spring Drive in Sussex. The clinic, which opens Oct. 17, will provide easy access to affordable care for many minor health problems such as cold and flu symptoms, sore throats, and ear, sinus and bladder infections.

The FastCare clinic will be supervised by medical director Mario Montalbo, MD, an internal medicine specialist with Froedtert & The Medical College, and staffed by Froedtert & The Medical College nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

“FastCare is a place people can turn to in their own neighborhood for immediate, trusted help with common illnesses,” said Dr. Montalbo. “If a minor complaint turns out to be serious, the FastCare staff will assist in finding the appropriate care.”

To ensure continuity of care, FastCare will be linked to the electronic medical records system serving the physician offices, clinics, hospitals and emergency rooms of Froedtert & The Medical College and Community Memorial Hospital. However, FastCare services are open to all, not just Froedtert & The Medical College and Community Memorial patients.

The FastCare clinic will be open weekdays from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm; Saturdays from 8:30 am to 5 pm; Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm; and holidays from 10 am to 2 pm. Patients must be at least 18 months old. No appointment is needed and because patients are taken on a walk-in basis, waiting times typically are less than 15 minutes. The cost of a FastCare visit is $52, including basic laboratory tests completed on site. Insurance can be billed for reimbursement. Pharmacy service is available on-site at the Shopko pharmacy or at the pharmacy of the patient’s choice.

FastCare clinics are recognized by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) as a healthcare provider that has accepted and supports the AAFP’s guidelines for retail health clinics.
