Get the Facts about Colorectal Cancer
Milwaukee, WI (March 9, 2011) – The second leading cause of cancer deaths in America can be prevented with a test that usually takes less than an hour. Colorectal cancer, or cancer of the colon and rectum, is most common in people over the age of 50, and that’s why a baseline colonoscopy screening is recommended at 50. But many people avoid getting screened, fearing it will be unpleasant or uncomfortable.
To answer questions about colorectal cancer and encourage people to get screened, Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin will host a free event on Wednesday, March 23, at 4 pm in Froedtert & The Medical College Clinical Cancer Center. Colon cancer experts will be on hand to explain risk factors, screening methods and treatment options. Informational booths and tours of the Clinical Cancer Center also will be offered. Free refreshments will be served.

“Colon cancer isn’t something people like to talk about, but there are two good reasons that we should talk about it more,” said Kirk Ludwig, MD, colorectal cancer specialist with Froedtert & The Medical College. “First, it’s one of the most common and yet preventable cancers, and second, early detection can save your life.”
Froedtert & The Medical College Clinical Cancer Center is located immediately south of the Froedtert East Clinics building, on Doyne Avenue between N. 87th and N. 92nd Streets. Free parking is available in the Clinical Cancer Center parking structure.
