Milwaukee, WI (March 30, 2009) — When money is tight, it’s easy to let preventive healthcare slide. That’s why Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin FastCare Clinic and Shopko are offering a one-day health fair inside the Shopko store at Highway 164 and West Silver Spring Drive in Sussex.

Set for Wednesday, April 8, from 10 am until 3 pm, the event will offer free blood pressure and blood sugar checks; free glucometers and diabetic supplies; free educational materials and advice about controlling blood sugars, counting carbohydrates and meal planning as well as information about orthotic shoes for diabetics. A certified diabetes nurse educator will answer questions and offer tips. Free apples will be available to encourage healthy snacking.

“Uncontrolled high blood pressure and diabetes can cause dangerous, even fatal, health problems,” said Mario Montalbo, MD, medical director of the FastCare Clinic and an internal medicine specialist with Froedtert & The Medical College. “By offering these free services, we hope to show people easy, low-cost things they can do to stay healthy.”

FastCare is a walk-in clinic affiliated with Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin.
