Thursday, May 31, 2012 - Breast Care Center Cited for Quality
Milwaukee, Wis. (May 31, 2012) — Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Breast Care Center announces a three-year accreditation renewal by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Only 20 breast care programs in Wisconsin are currently accredited by the NAPBC.

A voluntary, demonstrated commitment to provide the highest level of quality breast care is required for accreditation. Froedtert & the Medical College Breast Care Center completed a rigorous evaluation process, and achieved a perfect score on all 27 NAPBC performance standards for treating patients diagnosed with breast disease. These standards include proficiency in the areas of center leadership, clinical care, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement.

“As part of the region’s only academic medical center, Froedtert & the Medical College Breast Care Center offers an exceptional level of expertise along with coordination of care through an interdisciplinary team approach,” said Alonzo Walker, MD, the center's director and chair of surgical oncology at The Medical College of Wisconsin.

“This national recognition underscores our commitment to offering patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.”

According to the NAPBC, receiving care at an accredited breast care center ensures that a patient will have access to comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services; a multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options; information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options; and quality breast care close to home.
