Research Makes the Difference

Clinical trials are vital to improving treatments for any cancer, but are especially important for rare bone and connective tissue cancers (sarcomas). For instance, treatment advances through clinical studies have provided effective alternatives to amputation of a limb — previously a primary form of treatment for sarcomas.

Recent trials have examined minimizing side effects and maximizing outcomes for patients undergoing radiation therapy. Medical College of Wisconsin sarcoma experts also focus on innovative medical therapies for patients who are experiencing recurrence. The Bone and Connective Tissue Cancer Program participates in significant, multi-institutional studies through membership in such groups as the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group and the National Cancer Institute.
