Brain and Spine Tumor Program

Specialty care for complex tumors

The Brain Stem
The Brain Stem is a quarterly publication for our patients and families. Each issue takes an in-depth look at one aspect of the Brain and Spine Tumor Program.

The physicians of the Brain and Spine Tumor Program at Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin specialize in treating tumors in complex areas of the brain, spine and spinal cord. We offer patients the best chance of fighting disease while preserving physical and cognitive abilities.

Team Approach

Brain and spine tumors are rare, and they pose a threat to important abilities such as thought, speech and movement. Physicians in the Brain and Spine Tumor Program specialize in techniques for treating brain and spine tumors in or near critical areas of the nervous system.

The Hub Model
The Clinical Cancer Center's hub model builds the entire care experience around patients. Dedicated program coordinators answer questions, address concerns, coordinate treatment and help you along in your journey.

Patients in the program work with a complete team of cancer specialists — neuro-oncologists, neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, neuro-interventional radiologists and others who focus on brain and spine tumors. Through the program’s robust tumor board process, these physicians make sure every patient has a comprehensive treatment plan. The program also includes experienced nurses, dietitians and other skilled caregivers. Learn more about our exceptional staff.

Our new patient coordinator helps make sure patients and family members connect quickly with all the providers and services they need. The entire care team is committed to patient support, education and family involvement.

New patients and their families can find helpful information about many common concerns by reviewing some Frequently Asked Questions. You can also read more information about neurological cancers.

The Brain and Spine Tumor Program is one of 13 disease-specific cancer programs at the Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center.

Treatment Options for Brain and Spine Tumors

Where to Go
Patients in the Brain and Spine Tumor Program see all their team physicians and nurses in the "Hope" quadrant of the Clinical Cancer Center.

Neuro-Oncology Cognitive Clinic

Patients with brain tumors can experience changes in thinking, memory, emotions and other cognitive abilities. As part of our dedication to preserving quality of life, the Brain and Spine Tumor Program includes a neuropsychologist who monitors patients for cognitive changes and helps them optimize their abilities. Learn more about the Neuro-Oncology Cognitive Clinic.

Patient-Focused Research

Physicians in the Brain and Spine Tumor Program are national leaders in cancer research and the development of new cancer therapies. Through our active involvement in research collaboratives, we offer patients access to many national clinical trials. For many patients, these trials offer the opportunity to benefit from new tests, new treatment options and a better standard of care.
