Cancer is a complicated disease, and cancer treatment is often complex. The Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center has been designed from the ground up to simplify and streamline the treatment journey for patients and their families. Patients receive expert care, state-of-the-art treatment and complete support services — fully coordinated and all in one place.
The Hub ModelPeople with cancer usually need several different kinds of physicians — surgeons, chemotherapy doctors, radiation specialists and others. In most care settings, patients and their families have to coordinate multiple providers, clinics and services. The Clinical Cancer Center offers an alternative we call the “Hub Model.”

Physician Expertise: The Sub-Specialty DifferenceAt the Clinical Cancer Center, every physician is a cancer sub-specialist — a cancer physician who focuses on a particular type of cancer.
That means the radiation oncologists in our Prostate and Urologic Cancer Program focus on patients with prostate cancer and closely related conditions. The medical oncologists in our Blood and Lymph Node Cancer Program care exclusively for patients with diseases like leukemia and lymphoma. Our Breast Cancer Program surgeons do nothing but operate on breast malignancies.
Sub-specialist physicians have the most experience with particular kinds of cancer, and studies show that physician experience can make a significant difference in treatment results. Sub-specialists are also completely up to date on the latest treatment options. Learn more about the background and expertise of our exceptional staff.
Clinical Trials Offer Access to Newest TherapiesThe people of the Clinical Cancer Center are committed to searching for new and more effective cancer treatments. We participate in many National Cancer Institute (NCI) clinical trials for new drugs, therapies and surgical techniques. Our physicians are principal investigators in many NCI-sponsored trials.
As leading cancer researchers, the physicians of the Clinical Cancer Center are often able to give patients the chance to consider promising experimental therapies. View our current cancer clinical trials.
Innovative "Regional Therapies" Offer New HopeRecently, Liz Herzog of Sheboygan began waking in the middle of the night with abdominal pain. Liz saw her doctor and underwent several tests. The diagnosis came back within days: cervical cancer. As part of her treatment at Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin, she underwent a HIPEC procedure, a new form of regional therapy for patients with advanced cancers.
The Most Advanced Technology and Treatment OptionsThe Clinical Cancer Center gives patients access to world-leading technology and treatment options for cancer care. Our advanced systems include innovative technologies for delivering radiation therapy:
- We were one of the first medical centers in the nation with TomoTherapy, a radiation technology that combines a unique spiral dose pattern and onboard scanning to treat irregularly shaped tumors and tumors close to critical organs.
- The Clinical Cancer Center is one of the first sites in the United States with the Artiste linear accelerator, a radiation delivery system with “gating” capabilities for delivering radiation to tumors affected by breathing and heartbeat motion.
- We offer cone-beam CT and CT on rails (linear accelerators with image-guided therapy capabilities) and Gamma Knife, a therapy system that uses precise targeting to deliver high-dose radiation in a single session.
The Clinical Cancer Center also offers a full range of imaging technologies for detecting and diagnosing cancerous diseases and monitoring treatment. Systems include:
- CT devices that create two- and three-dimensional cross-section images of the body.
- MRI technologies that map soft tissue structures and brain activity.
- PET scanners that detect cancer by measuring cell function.
Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin is the primary test site for new CT imaging equipment developed by GE Healthcare. Thanks to this unique relationship, the Clinical Cancer Center is able to offer patients first-in-the-world access to many advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies.
Palliative Care ProgramPatients in the Clinical Cancer Center have access to Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin’s world-renowned Palliative Care Program.
Palliative care is actively caring for people with life-threatening diseases, including patients with terminal cancer. Specially trained physicians and nurses manage distressing physical and emotional symptoms, coordinate end-of-life medical care, and help patients and their families with medical decision making and personal goal setting.
The Palliative Care Program is the only one like it in Wisconsin and one of the most prominent palliative care centers in the nation. It is one of only six Robert Wood Johnson Foundation “Palliative Care Leadership Centers” in the country.
Complete Support ServicesThe Clinical Cancer Center includes many professionals and programs that address the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of patients and their families. Learn more about our complete range of support services.
