Clinical Cancer Center At a Glance


  • Work began in spring 2005
  • Opened for patient care May 19, 2008
  • 173,000 square feet dedicated to cancer services
  • Five levels include space for growth through 2012
  • Patient care areas clustered on Levels two and three
  • 350 covered parking spaces for easy access

Construction Facts

  • More than 4,000 panes of glass, 18,000 cubic yards of concrete, 3,000 tons of structural steel
  • Exceeds American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers standards for energy-efficiency
  • Recycled 98% (more than 20,000 tons) of construction waste materials
  • $95 million construction cost financed by debt and donor support
  • Architect: OWP/P-Chicago
  • General contractor: Mortenson Construction

A Growing Need for Cancer Care
Over the past five years, demand for cancer services at Froedtert & The Medical College has grown significantly:
  • Medical oncology – up 56 percent
  • Radiation oncology – up 42 percent

In 2007, we treated more than 2,600 new cancer cases and had more than 115,000 cancer patient visits.

Comprehensive Care for All Types of Cancer

  • Cancer specialists in 13 disease specific cancer programs
  • New model of care centralizes all cancer clinics and support services in one building
  • More than 200 physicians and scientists dedicated to cancer treatment and research
  • Access to clinical trials (about 130 devoted to cancer each year)
  • Day Hospital with extended hours for chemotherapy and related care in a serene, comfortable setting unlike any other in the region
  • Small Stones Wellness Center with special services for cancer patients including skin and nail care, concealers, head coverings and post-mastectomy garments
  • Quality of Life Center offering cancer physical therapy, survivorship programs, social, psychological and chaplaincy support, cancer genetic counseling, more
  • The Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research, the global coordinating center for data from more than 500 transplant centers
  • Advanced cancer treatments and technology, including microwave and radio frequency ablation, cryosurgery, da Vinci robotic surgical system, photopheresis, TheraSphere, Prism, Artiste, TomoTherapy, relative cerebral blood volume mapping

  • Education center for tumor board conferences, cancer support group meetings, public education sessions
  • Pharmacy for prescription services, over-the-counter medications and cancer care items
  • Laboratory with full hematology and chemistry capabilities
  • 87th Street Bistro café with healthy choices and wireless access
