Guide to Common Eye Disorders
The eye is supplied with blood by the uveal tract. When any part of the uveal tract becomes inflamed, you have uveitis. Typical symptoms of uveitis are painful red eye, decreased vision and sensitivity to light.
Uveitis can affect the front of the eye, the back of the eye or the entire eye. It can be caused by trauma (for example, a finger in the eyeball) or some ongoing condition. It can be a secondary symptom to another disease or simply the manifestation of a whole-body inflammation. Uveitis can also be the eye’s reaction to surgery. Often, the cause is unknown.
Uveitis usually affects older people, but trauma can cause inflammation at any age. The condition is normally treated with medications, including steroids.
