Reasons for Having a Vision Rehabilitation Examination:

Vision Loss Decreases Central AcuityThis is our regular spotting vision that we use on a day-to-day basis when you point your eyes at something and you see an object you are using your central vision. If a disease process affects this vision, it will cause blurriness or blind spots. Vision is different from just reading a new spectacle correction. Diseases that will cause central vision are macular degeneration diabetes, corneal disease, and cataracts.

Peripheral Field Loss
A disease process can cause peripheral field loss where one loses their side vision. This can be very devastating to the patient as they have problems moving through their environment. Conditions that can cause peripheral field loss are glaucoma, retinitis pigmentosa, and stroke.

Overall Loss of Sensitivity
This is when patient lose vision across the board both peripherally and centrally. This can happen in many conditions. It typically happens with diseases of the optic nerve, such as, optic atrophy or glaucoma. It can also occur in conditions affect the entire retina, such as, diabetic.

Glare ProblemsPatients have problems with light causing glare, making it difficult to discern objects from their backgrounds. Common causes of glare include glaucoma, cataracts, corneal disease, diabetes, and macular degeneration.
