Flight For Life
When minutes count, you can count on Flight For Life
When seriously ill or injured patients need to be quickly transported — from a trauma site or another medical facility — Flight For Life is the answer.
Equipped with two helicopters and staffed with specially trained healthcare professionals, Flight For Life is the link between ill or injured people and the resources they need for optimal medical care. The current base for the program is a helipad at Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin, located on the roof of the East Clinics building.
Flight For Life is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. To learn more about this valuable service, visit www.flightforlife.org.
Flight For Life to Relocate in 2008Since Flight For Life was founded in 1983, its helicopter has been based at Froedtert Hospital, which houses the region’s Level I Trauma Center. (A second helicopter is based in McHenry, Illinois.)
Over the years, Flight For Life has experienced tremendous growth in the number of patients it transports for life-saving care. To better serve the region’s population, Flight For Life is planning to move its Froedtert-based helicopter to Crites Field in Waukesha in the summer of 2008.
Moving west will allow Flight For Life to be more centrally located and make air transport accessible for more patients and hospitals. The move will allow Flight For Life to reduce its response times in Waukesha County and other outlying areas.
The Level I Trauma Center at Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin will remain the destination for most Flight For Life trauma patients, and the relocation to Waukesha County likely will mean that even more patients will be flown here.
Flight For Life will continue to maintain its helipad and hangar facility atop Froedtert Hospital, and will continue refueling, training and other operations at Froedtert.
