Gastroenterology/Hepatology Program

Programs and Services

State-of-the-Art Diagnostics

Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin use the most advanced procedures and technology to diagnose the cause of symptoms that occur with digestive tract diseases. Imaging and testing of the digestive tract may be done to:

  • Screen (test) the digestive tract for the presence of disease (e.g., colorectal cancer)
  • Diagnose a variety of disorders
  • Conduct follow-up assessments of the digestive tract after treatment (especially surgery)

A variety of techniques may be used to diagnose disorders of the digestive tract, including:

Imaging — using tools such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), compute tomography (CT) and X-rays

Endoscopy — examining the inside of the body using a lighted, flexible instrument called an endoscope

Biopsy — removing a sample of tissue for purposes of diagnosis

GI Motility Testing — tests performed in the GI Manometry Lab to help diagnose motility (movement) disorders of the esophagus
