Dedicated general thoracic surgeons offering highly skilled, expert care

2012-2013 Best Hospitals - PulmonologyFroedtert Hospital is recognized in a total of 12 specialty areas in U.S. News & World Report’s 2012-13 “Best Hospitals” list.

General thoracic surgeons deal with non-cardiac surgeries of the chest, including the lungs, esophagus, trachea, diaphragm, mediastinum and chest wall. We treat both malignant and benign diseases in the setting of a leading academic medical center.

Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin have one of the largest thoracic surgery clinical practices in Southeastern Wisconsin. With three dedicated general thoracic surgeons, we offer highly skilled, expert care for the most complex thoracic diseases and conditions. Our thoracic surgeons — Mario Gasparri, MD, George Haasler, MD, David Johnstone, MD, and William Tisol, MD, — are each board-certified in both thoracic surgery and general surgery. Dr. Haasler is also board-certified in laser surgery.

As a team, they have unrivaled experience and expertise that comes from specializing in thoracic surgery.

Incredible Story
Police officer Christine Cronin has a much improved quality of life after surgery for hyperhidrosis, a condition that causes excessive sweating.

We treat patients with a variety of conditions including lung cancer, emphysema, end-stage lung disease, hyperhidrosis, thoracic outlet syndrome, chronic pulmonary embolism, esophageal cancer, achalasia, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and much more. Lung transplantation is offered through our Transplant Center, a highly developed program that coordinates the services of pulmonary medicine, thoracic surgery, social services and rehabilitation. Patients with thoracic malignancies (cancers) receive highly coordinated, state-of-the-science care. We take an integrated approach to evaluation and treatment using both traditional and advanced approaches including radiation therapy, chemotherapy and surgery.

As one of the top academic medical centers in the country, Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin is on the leading edge, offering breakthrough treatments for diseases of the chest. Our patients receive much more than excellent surgical care — they become part of our unmatched healthcare system, with access to experts in virtually every area of health care all on one campus. Along with our exceptional staff, we offer a multidisciplinary, patient-focused approach where patients are educated about their options and encouraged to participate in their own healthcare decisions.
