Heart and Vascular Center

Highlights

The Academic Medical Center Advantage

Together, Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin form one of the top academic medical centers in the country. There are many advantages to choosing care at the Heart and Vascular Center, where Medical College of Wisconsin physicians:

  • Specialize in diagnosing and treating heart and vascular disease using the latest techniques and technology
  • Have the expertise to teach the next generation of heart and vascular specialists
  • Conduct research to find new ways to detect and treat heart and vascular disease

Team Collaboration

Our expert heart and vascular specialists collaborate regularly to ensure that patients receive comprehensive, integrated and high-quality care — all in one location. Team physicians work alongside nurses, physician assistants, cardiovascular technicians, dietitians, therapists, lab technologists and other team members to deliver the highest level of care.

Together, team specialists plan care, perform procedures and monitor patient progress. For example, specialists in Vascular Surgery, Cardiac Surgery and Interventional Radiology may collaborate to treat a patient with aortic disease without surgery.

Vascular surgeons often collaborate with vascular and interventional radiologists who perform many specialized interventional procedures such as angioplasty and stent placement.

Quality

To continually improve outcomes for heart attack patients, Froedtert Hospital follows specific guidelines from The Joint Commission and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. These guidelines cover many aspects of care, from giving certain drugs to counseling patients on quitting smoking. Our quality report for heart attack care is available on the Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality Web site at wchq.org. Froedtert is proud to consistently rank among the top healthcare organizations for heart attack care.

The Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Heart and Vascular Center was awarded the Gold Seal of Approval by The Joint Commission for their Adult Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Destination Therapy Program. Froedtert & The Medical College have one of the fastest growing advanced heart failure and VAD programs in the nation.
