Stroke and Neurovascular Program
Your brain is the command center for your entire body, impacting mental and physical health, personality, intelligence and much more. A nearly endless supply of nerves within your brain and spine work together to keep you alive and functioning each day, nourished by an elaborate vascular system of blood vessels.
Physician Leaders in Stroke and Neurovascular CareIf a stroke, brain aneurysm or something else goes wrong with this “neurovascular” system, there is no better resource for highly specialized treatment than Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin.
|
Froedtert Hospital is regionally recognized for eight medical specialties, including neurology and neurosurgery. |
Here, our neurologists, interventional neurologists, neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, and physiatrists (physician specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitation) combine their expert skills and knowledge.
The goal is to offer patients the latest, research-proven treatment options for even the rarest, most complicated disorders of the blood vessels of the brain and spine. They offer comprehensive, state-of-the art diagnostic procedures and treatments, including minimally invasive catheter-based treatments (endovascular surgical neuroradiology). Through our Neurovascular Second Opinion Program we explore treatment options for patients with all types of neurovascular disorders.

Time and Experience Matter for Stroke and Neurovascular Conditions

They also are experts in emergency treatment for ruptured brain aneurysms and raised intracranial pressure, an increase in pressure inside the skull that results from or causes brain injury. |

- Around the clock, the Froedtert Acute Stroke Team (FAST) is staffed by stroke specialists with extensive experience in rapidly administering tPA, a treatment that can stop an ischemic stroke (the most common type) in its tracks.
- Thanks to their expertise, the team has been able to extend the window of treatment for opening blocked arteries up to 12 hours and beyond using sophisticated neuro-interventional treatments.
- The Stroke and Neurovascular Program was the first in Wisconsin — and among the first in the nation — to receive certification as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission. This certification is considered the “gold seal of approval” in the healthcare industry. Learn more about stroke care.
For these reasons and more, patients come to us from throughout the state, Midwest and country for expertise and treatment solutions not readily available elsewhere. All neurovascular patients benefit from other advantages available at Froedtert & The Medical College:
