Foot and Ankle Program
Primary Foot Care Clinics
Whether walking, running, standing or even sitting, our feet take a beating throughout life. Sports, medical conditions, improper footwear and other factors can cause swelling, blisters, pain, calluses and sprains.
For foot care that does not require surgery, patients find the expertise they need through the Primary Foot Care Program. Nurse practitioners collaborate with orthopaedic surgeons, physical therapists and specialists in wound care and orthotics/bracing to diagnose and treat foot and ankle problems including:
The program is offered by Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin primary care clinics and The Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Froedtert Hospital.
Special Focus on Diabetic Foot CareFoot care is important for people with diabetes because related nerve pain and damage can reduce blood flow and feeling in the feet. Infections, slow-healing sores and other complications can result without preventive care.
Experts at the Primary Foot Care Program help patients protect their feet with resources such as:
- Annual diabetic foot care examinations
- Nail, callus and wound care
- Orthotic, shoe and brace services
- Educational programs
Referrals to Specialized CareIf patients need foot and ankle surgery, intensive wound care or other specialized services, caregivers with the Primary Foot Care Program make referrals to specialists as appropriate. Seamless and efficient access to specialists is one of the many advantages for patients of Froedert & The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Primary Foot Care Program.
