Exceptional Radiation Therapists

As integral members of an academic medical center, our radiation therapists play a critical role in helping Medical College of Wisconsin cancer physicians and dosimetrists deliver highly effective treatment and follow-up care. The emphasis is on providing the expertise required to deliver precision radiation doses with decreased toxicity to critical organs. Radiation treatment options are tailored to individual patients’ health and lifestyle needs.

Technology

The Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Radiation Therapy Department has a strong commitment to state-of-the-science treatments for its patients, affording our radiation therapists the opportunity to become proficient in the most advanced techniques, such as:

  • High dose rate brachytherapy for select patients
  • GE Lightspeed RT, large bore (80 cm./multi-slice) computed tomography with software that fuses PET/CT and MRI images for treatment planning
  • Innovative ways of providing external beam radiation: Prone radiation for breast cancer
  • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy for brain, head, neck and prostate cancers, and (in combination with B-Mode Acquisition and Targeting for localization) for prostate cancer
  • Radiation therapy combined with intra-arterial chemoembolization
  • Gliasite treatment for recurrent brain tumors
  • Gamma Knife treatment for small head, neck and brain tumors

 

Cancers Treated

The Radiation Oncology Department provides radiation therapy for all types of cancer, including breast, prostate, lung, head and neck tumors, and rare brain cancers. In providing some of the most innovative treatments in the area, radiation therapists at Froedtert Hospital also work closely with radiation oncologists to offer treatment options for patients with recurrent cancers or cancers that occur in pregnancy, or in conjunction with other serious diseases.
