Seven of the 29 operating room suites at Froedtert Hospital are equipped with the latest endoscopic technology. A voice-activated system allows the surgeon to control the room lights, laparoscopic camera, gasses, and robotic arm through simple voice commands. The robotic arm holds the camera and adjusts to improve the surgeon’s visual field. In addition, all controls are readily accessible in one central location for the operating room nurse.
Each room has teleconference capabilities as well as connectivity to Froedtert auditoriums and other OR suites. This accommodates consultation with other physicians and can be used for education, furthering the mission of the academic medical center.
All staff are competent in using the technology in the endosuites. Three clinical education coordinators are dedicated to providing staff with an individualized orientation as well as ongoing training in our complex operating rooms.
