Specialized Pregnancy and Birth Care

Specialized Care for the Concerns of Pregnancy

If you are experiencing a high-risk pregnancy, or are concerned that you might, you want the best care available. The Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Maternal Fetal Care Center and the Fetal Concerns Center of Wisconsin (which is a joint effort of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Froedtert Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin), both address complications and concerns of pregnancy and newborn.

If your pregnancy involves a fetal anomaly, such as a birth defect or inherited disorder, the Fetal Concerns Center of Wisconsin offers comprehensive health, education and counseling services. Many local, regional and national physicians send their most challenging cases to our specialists because of our acknowledged expertise and services.

Maternal Fetal Care Center

The Maternal Fetal Care Center at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin is a resource unlike any other in the state. It provides care for women from before conception through delivery offering comprehensive, high-quality care for high-risk pregnancies, preconception and genetic counseling, specialized testing and screening and much more.

Breastfeeding and Breast Pumps

At the Birth Center, all of our staff nurses are trained in lactation. We also have on staff three international board-certified lactation consultants. As a team, we assist with feedings and monitoring of each infant's progress and provide you with breast feeding support.

Feeding Plan

Staff will assess the feeding plan of care. If pumping is recommended, staff will initiate it by providing a hospital grade breast pump for use during your hospital stay. It’s not necessary to bring a breast pump to the Birth Center when you deliver. However, if desired, you may bring in your personal breast pump for assistance in learning how to set it up during the hospital stay.

Breast Pumps and Insurance

We do not offer breast pumps for rent or purchase. However, we can provide a list of the local rental resources. Most insurance companies do not cover the rental cost or purchase of a breast pump. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has implemented a ruling that breast pumps and breast feeding supplies are recognizable as medical expenses worthy of reimbursement through Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).

Prenatal and Childbirth Classes

We believe the more you know about the birthing process and what to expect after your child is born, the better prepared you'll be as a new parent. That's why we offer a variety of childbirth classes, breastfeeding and an instructional course on basic CPR. Classes are only available for patients of the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Birth Center. For more information about the classes we offer, please call 414-805-3666 or 800-272-3666.
